Tripadvisor periodically makes changes to its API to add new features or deprecate outdated information. As major breaking changes are introduced, a new version number will be made available.

Key updates in Version 2.0
Syntax Updates: A number of field names throughout the API responses have been updated to consistently use snake_case. Additionally, when the same data is returned as part of different method responses, e.g., user data, it will be formatted consistently.
Localizations: All field names have been standardized to be returned in English only, so the field name will be consistent regardless of which language was requested. Field values may include localizations, depending upon the language requested.
Multi-Get: Certain methods, most notably /location, now include the ability to retrieve data for up to 50 objects at the same time, using a comma-separated list of location IDs.
Tripadvisor rating images (Bubbles, Ollie & Bubbles) and Awards images for Travelers Choice 2017, Certificate of Excellence 2017, and GreenLeaders are updated with new green color.
New Feature
Added ranking_string_detail field to ranking_data object in the /location and /map calls. This field provides an additional ranking as displayed on Tripadvisor pages. In particular this is useful for displaying Restaurant content where Establishment Types are broken down into Restaurants, Dessert, Coffee & Tea, Bakeries, Bars & Pubs, and Dine With a Local Chef.
New Features
1) Groups object for responses containing Attraction POIs. Contains hierarchical information on the Groups and child Categories used to categorize the Attraction.
2) Groups filter for Attraction POIs. Can be applied to /location (with a Destination ID), /location-attractions and /map-attractions.
Deprecated
attraction_type and subcategory fields and filters for Attractions are no longer maintained. This data is being replaced by the new Groups object.

Changes
The default image format for Tripadvisor rating images changed from .png to .svg. Images were also optimized for dark backgrounds by using transparency.
