Testing

Before going live we recommend that you test the widget thoroughly.

 

In order to avoid reviews being posted to live listing pages on our site and triggering fraud, we ask that you only conduct testing on our test page, below:

Also, please make sure to include 'Test' in the review title and review copy when you submit your test reviews. This will insure that the reviews will not be displayed on the Schrute Farms listing page on our live site, for example:

 

Please note: if you are passing user data into the widget (email address etc) then you will need to create the data parameter using the encoding methods outlined in Appendix - Encoding and include this in the URL.

 

To test mobile optimisation, use the parameter forceMobile=true (rather than allowMobile). This will force the widget into the mobile version regardless of device. Please do not use forceMobile in production – this is for testing purposes only.

Testing checklist

 

Answer

Check that all widget content is visible in the iframe, most importantly the “submit” button at the bottom. Create an error message in the widget by entering a one word, all CAPS, profanity into “Your Review” box. Error message will push content down. Can you still see the submit button?

Does the widget load correctly across multiple devices / browser types– desktop, mobile, tablet / safari, chrome, etc

 

 

Write a test review and submit. Does the guest data pre-fill on the second page? If not, see Troubleshooting section of Appendix: Encoding

 

 

Change the language in the widget (either with URL parameter or with flag drop-down menu). Does it still load correctly and can you submit the review?

 

 

Implement RCP widget into guest satisfaction survey (if applicable)

 

Check all of the above on multiple browsers

 

 

 

 

Before going live

 

Before putting the widget into production and sending first post stay emails, please:

  • Test, test, test! Make sure everything is working correctly and complete the checklist above
  • Send a test post stay email to your Tripadvisor Account Manager so that we can verify and sign off on brand guidelines, layout and implementation
  • Provide your Account Manager with a list of properties you will start collecting reviews for – this is useful for reporting purposes. (If you have already submitted a mapping then this step is not necessary).
